SUMMARY:Judge Not?
DESCRIPTION:Ah\, judgment. Such a loaded term in spiritual circles! Can we ever stop judging ourselves and others? And if not\, can we still … y’know … walk the path? In my experience\, the answer is a resounding YES\, and in this session I will share what brought me to that understanding. \nThis session will be similar to our previous meetups: some quick intros\, a brief talk\, a 30ish-minute sitting\, and time for Q+A and general discussion. \nPlease RSVP to see the Zoom link.

DESCRIPTION:If you’re reading this\, you’ve got some nerve. If you’re thinking of joining us on Saturday\, you’ve REALLY got some nerve. And if you actually DO join us … well\, I’ve got no words for that. No\, wait; actually\, I do. See you then! 😄 \nThis session will be similar to our previous meetups: some quick intros\, a brief talk\, a 30ish-minute sitting\, and time for Q+A and general discussion. \nPlease RSVP to see the Zoom link.

SUMMARY:Dealing with Dread
DESCRIPTION:Dread is a special kind of crippling beast\, heavy and suffocating. SUMMARY:Holding Space for Grief
DESCRIPTION:I’m seeing more and more signs that many of us are moving into a grieving stage of our collective experience. Loss is perhaps the most painful example of the law of impermanence described by the Buddha\, and confronting it is profoundly difficult. Learning how to make space for grief – whether for the loss of a person\, a belief\, or a way of life – is a necessary\, load-bearing pillar of insight meditation practice if we are to be free of suffering. \nThis session will be similar to our previous meetups: some quick intros\, a brief talk\, a 30ish-minute sitting\, and time for Q+A and general discussion. \nPlease RSVP to see the Zoom link.

SUMMARY:A Subtle But Powerful New Mindfulness Technique
DESCRIPTION:I recently came across a new (to me!) mindfulness technique to share. It’s very quick to describe\, so we won’t have the usual talk before we sit … for those who enjoy the talks\, there will be plenty of that in the psychology-meets-meditation overview in Mindfulness for the Professionally Anxious the following week. 😉 Instead\, we’ll spend a little extra time practicing the technique and may have more time for discussion/Q+A as well. \nOh\, I’ll also explain what’s up with the bunny. It’s not for Easter. 😄 \nPlease RSVP to see the Zoom link.

SUMMARY:Cutting Through Boredom with Mindfulness
DESCRIPTION:There’s a very simple element of practice that we all possess\, but often overlook. It provides focus\, motivation\, openness\, and a genuine interest. This session will reveal and cultivate this critical element and is recommended for anyone wishing to begin\, deepen\, or re-commit to their practice. It will also explain what’s up with all the bananas. \nThe format will be similar to our previous meetups: some quick intros\, a brief talk\, a 30ish-minute sitting\, and time for Q+A and general discussion. \nHere’s the meeting link:\nhttps://zoom.us/j/923891687\nMeeting ID: 923 891 687 \nI’m looking forward to sitting with you all once again!

SUMMARY:Mind Sanitizer
DESCRIPTION:Pandemics … presidential primaries … panic? \nStore shelves are more likely to have purple unicorns than Purell these days\, but we can always give ourselves some housecleaning above the jawline. In this session\, we’ll look at skillfully managing uncertainty and turmoil; as usual\, we’ll follow with a sitting for about 30 minutes\, and then have a Q+A period. \n**LOCATION**\nLike everything else these days\, this will take place in your house. This will be my first attempt at hosting a Zoom session for a group\, so it’ll be a good chance to see me experience “beginner’s mind.” 😄 If you don’t already have a Zoom account\, you can sign up (it’s free) at https://zoom.us – I recommend testing your audio and video in advance; you can join a test meeting at https://zoom.us/test to do so. \nHere’s the meeting link:\nhttps://us04web.zoom.us/j/955339783 \nMeeting ID: 955 339 783\nPassword: 5304547 \nI’m looking forward to sitting with you all once again!

SUMMARY:Mindfulness 101: "Am I Doing This Right?"
DESCRIPTION:**NOTE**This is a free event\, but Staples Spotlight events require registration due to limited space. Here’s the link: \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/mindfulness-meditation-am-i-doing-this-right-tickets-98690089715 \nThis first event at the Staples Spotlight venue in Cambridge seems like a good time for some back-to-basics about what we’re doing (and not doing!) as part of a mindfulness meditation practice. \nThis session will be a great introduction for new practitioners and the merely curious\, as well as an opportunity for experienced (or lapsed 😉 ) meditators to refocus. \nThe format will be similar to our previous meetups: some quick intros\, a brief talk called “Am I Doing This Right?\,” a 25ish-minute sitting\, and time for Q+A and general discussion. \n**LOCATION**Staples Spotlight Cambridge is at 186 Alewife Brook Parkway. It’s accessible via public transportation and there’s a large parking lot. Feel free to bring cushions\, pillows\, etc. for our sitting\, and there are chairs available if that’s preferred. \nI’m looking forward to sitting with you all once again!

SUMMARY:Pitfall! (Mindfulness and Insight Meditation Traps)
DESCRIPTION:Last summer\, we had an event that focused on a few of the traps that we find on our spiritual journeys. New practitioners often encounter confusion from common paradoxes\, and experienced meditators discover increasingly sneaky tarpits as practice deepens. In this session\, we’ll look at a few more of these fun little hurdles and how to skillfully navigate them. As usual\, we’ll open with discussion on the topic\, sit for about 30 minutes\, and then have a Q+A period. \n**LOCATION**\nThis event will take place in the Charles River Room at the Watertown Center for Healing Arts. Please use the 17 Spring St. entrance (NOT the 22 Mount Auburn St. entrance) — there’s a large parking lot on that side for CVS and other businesses. Once you come in that entrance\, just go up the stairs and we’re in the large room next to the small kitchen area. \nFeel free to bring your own cushion; there will also be various blankets\, bolsters\, and chairs available. \nI’m looking forward to sitting with you all once again!

SUMMARY:Inquire Within
DESCRIPTION:I thought it might be a nice change of pace to have some extra time for Q+A/discussion (which also happens to be my favorite part of our gatherings 😉). \nIn place of an opening talk\, we’ll bookend our usual 30-minute sitting with Q+A/discussion periods. Feel free to bring any questions you might have about mindfulness\, insight meditation\, my practice\, or other people’s experiences. Or just come be a fly on the wall … it’s very common for multiple people to have the same question\, and you might even get an answer to a question you didn’t know you had! 😄 \n*** LOCATION CHANGE***\nNOTE: We will NOT be in our usual room on the second floor of the library. The Watertown Savings Bank room on the first floor\, down the hallway right by the main desk. Feel free to bring cushions\, pillows\, etc. for our sitting\, and there are chairs available if that’s preferred. \nLooking forward to another great event!

SUMMARY:[Second session added] Workshop: Mindfulness for Dissolving Fear
DESCRIPTION:The Feb 8 workshop has already sold out; I’ve added a second session on the 15th\, but only half as many spots will be available\, so please don’t wait too long to get your tickets if this topic resonates with you. \nFull details and registration here: http://dissolve-fear.eventbrite.com/ \n***About this Event*** \nFear is a cloud. It looks solid … but that’s an illusion. It moves. It yields. It has no real substance. And you can make it evaporate. \nBlow away the cloud of fear with a simple four-step process: \n1. Control2. Identification3. Disintegration4. Harmony \nWhen we learn how to apply skillful control\, we can accurately identify the sources and manifestations of our fear. Then\, the targeted disintegration method we’ll use breaks apart the vicious cycle of dread. This opens the space to create genuine inner harmony … maybe for the very first time. \n***What people have reported experiencing from day one*** \n• Deeper sleep• Inner clarity• Insight and self-understanding• Acceptance and compassion• Life-altering “a-ha!” moments \n***How this system was developed*** \nI was housebound for six months in 1998 with clinical anxiety\, depression\, panic disorder\, and agoraphobia. I went on disability because I couldn’t pass my front door without terror\, let alone actually go to work. \nWhen my doctor prescribed this “mindfulness” thing\, I wasn’t impressed. I figured I’d give it a quick try\, and when it inevitably failed he’d have to give me the REAL treatment. \nThat was over 20 years ago\, and I’m still doing this mindfulness thing. \nBut you don’t have trapped at home with relentless panic – like I was – to be imprisoned by fear. \nWe’re so used to feeling fear that sometimes we don’t even see how it’s controlling us and making us miserable until we’re in too deep. It becomes our normal state\, which is why it’s never enough to just “decide” to stop being so anxious; we need a systematic way to shatter the walls. \nThe presentation of these techniques – and the way they build upon and reinforce each other – comes from over two decades of sustained practice\, research\, and refinement. We already know WHAT we want to do\, and WHY; this workshop provides the HOW. \n***What we’ll do*** \nThis workshop will be divided into five short parts. \nParts 1 – 4 will focus on the four core elements (Control\, Identification\, Disintegration\, and Harmony) that build toward our release from fear’s grip. Each of these parts will have an overview of its element\, a 15-minute guided mindfulness meditation\, and a brief journaling period. Part 5 will be an open discussion and Q+A. \n***Investment levels*** \nLimited tickets are available at three investment levels; please select the one most appropriate for you. Those with the means and generosity to choose the benefactor rate make it possible to offer tickets at the scholarship rate so that everyone has an opportunity to attend. \nDuring checkout\, you’ll also have the opportunity to receive guided audio sessions that you can start using today. \n***Tickets are limited\, register here*** \nhttp://dissolve-fear.eventbrite.com/ \n***Location***This event will take place in the “Players Room” at the Watertown Center for Healing Arts. Please use the 22 Mount Auburn St. entrance (NOT the 17 Spring St. entrance). Once you come in that entrance\, just go up the stairs and take the first left\, right by the front desk. SUMMARY:Workshop: Mindfulness for Dissolving Fear
DESCRIPTION:Note: this is a ticketed workshop with limited seating\, so please don’t wait too long to register if this topic resonates with you. \nFull details and registration here: http://dissolving-fear.eventbrite.com/ \n***About this Event*** \nFear is a cloud. \n***Tickets are limited\, register here*** \nhttp://dissolving-fear.eventbrite.com/ \n***LOCATION***This event will take place in the Charles River Room at the Watertown Center for Healing Arts. \nParking:There’s plenty of parking in the lot on Spring St.\, as well as street parking on Mount Auburn St. and a small lot on a short side street on the first right after the WCHA entrance (when heading toward Watertown Square).

SUMMARY:New Year\, New Karma? (Second chance! 😊)
DESCRIPTION:Staples Spotlight asked if I’d lead some sessions at their new community spaces; the “New Year\, New Karma?” session a couple of weeks ago had a long waiting list\, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to offer it again for those who couldn’t get in last time. And who says you can’t find inner peace amidst post-its and paper clips? 😄 \n**NOTE**\nThis is a free event\, but Staples Spotlight events require registration due to limited space. Here’s the link:\nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/new-year-new-karma-tickets-89892207011 \n**DESCRIPTION**\nThe concept of karma has gotten a bit twisted across time and space. We won’t have time to delve TOO deeply into this critical pillar of Buddhist teachings\, but we can reframe it to more closely align with its original meaning (which I find to be far more optimistic than our common Westernized interpretation). The new year seems like a great time to do so! \nThe format will be similar to our previous meetups: some quick intros\, a brief talk called “New Year\, New Karma?\,” a 25ish-minute sitting\, and time for Q+A and general discussion. \n**LOCATION**\nThe Staples Spotlight Woburn location is at 335 Washington St.; you’ll find the Spotlight meeting room at the back of the store. Feel free to bring cushions\, pillows\, etc. for our sitting\, and there are chairs available if that’s preferred. \nLooking forward to breaking in a new space! SUMMARY:Stop Poking The Bear
DESCRIPTION:After such a great workshop on November 23rd — which included my “Calming Your Inner Control Freak” session — I thought it would be a good time to reprise Part II of the Control Freak series\, “Stop Poking the Bear.” This is a great follow-on for those who are familiar with Part I\, but also stands on its own perfectly well for newcomers. \nThe format will be similar to our previous meetups: some quick intros\, a brief talk called “Stop Poking The Bear\,” a 30ish-minute sitting\, and time for Q+A and general discussion. \n**LOCATION**We’ll be meeting at the Lucia Mastrangelo Meeting Room on the second floor of the Watertown library at 2:15. SUMMARY:Mindfulness for the Professionally Anxious
DESCRIPTION:Limited tickets available; click here to save your spot \n  \n\n\nDo you feel like everything will be ok if you “just get that one last thing done?” (And then the next “last thing” … and the next …)\n\n\n\nIn “Mindfulness for the Professionally Anxious\,” you’ll learn: \n\nThe source of obsessive thinking\, how it causes anxiety\, and why it’s not your fault (really!).\nScientifically-proven methods that break the cycle of fear and actually rewire your brain for peace.\nThe one powerful question that brings instant clarity.\nHow the “Totem Pole” technique calms your inner control freak.\n\n\n\nDo one or more of these questions resonate? \n\nDo you take your work home (and everywhere else) with you … in your head? Have you noticed that it doesn’t really help\, but you still can’t stop?\n\n\nDo other people somehow not seem as stressed as you feel?\n\n\nAre you pretty sure you could get it all together if life would just pause for\, say\, a freakin’ minute or two?\nDo the benefits of mindfulness or meditation sound great and all\, but you just can’t stop your thoughts and clear your mind?\n\n\n\nWho should attend? \nIf you answered “yes” to any of the questions above\, or if you’re just curious about mindfulness (or how to resolve human angst)\, this event is for you. \nNo prior experience is needed\, although even seasoned practitioners will likely find some new context for their practice! \n\n\nWho am I? \nHi. I’m Ron Levine from Mindfulness in Blue Jeans. \nEarly in my IT career\, I became housebound with clinical anxiety\, depression\, panic disorder\, and agoraphobia. When my doctor prescribed this “mindfulness” thing\, I wasn’t impressed. I figured I’d give it a quick try\, and when it inevitably failed we could move on to the REAL treatment. \nThat was over 20 years ago\, and I’m still doing this mindfulness thing. \nThis practice has changed my life. First\, I used these tools and techniques to break free from what was holding me back. Then\, I transferred my new skills to other parts of my life. I’ve built an incredibly successful IT career. As a musician\, I’ve traveled to perform at festivals. And now\, I lead practice groups\, corporate events\, and workshops like this so others may experience these life-changing benefits as well. \n\n\nWhat we’ll do \nWe’ll begin with a talk about the true origins of our anxiety\, followed by an overview of how to apply mindfulness using the “Totem Pole” technique. A guided sitting session (about 25 minutes) will follow\, and we’ll wrap up with a journaling and Q+A period. \n\n\nInvestment levels \nLimited tickets are available at three investment levels; please select the one most appropriate for you. Those with the means and generosity to choose the benefactor rate make it possible to offer tickets at the scholarship rate so that everyone has an opportunity to attend. \n\n\nWhat others are saying \n“I’m still enjoying every day with an expansive sense of total release & freedom. The transformation awes me every day! As time passes\, I realize that unlike some of the strategies I employed\, its initial\, astounding impact was not just a temporary boost. So\, I can genuinely say it changed my life!! ” — Elisa\, Wareham\, MA \n“I feel like I just had a weight lifted from my chest and I can feel the space that was just created inside of me … I’m overwhelmed with joy and I know what to do. ” — Ashley\, Denver\, CO \n“You made this practice very approachable\, thank you.” — Melissa\, Hanover\, MA \n“I love the pace and tone and clear guidance.” — Parminder\, London\, United Kingdom \n“To say that this experience has been insightful\, and it has\, would be the highest compliment I could give.” — Seeker\, Cedar City\, UT \n\n\n“Mindfulness for the Professionally Anxious” is presented by Ron Levine from Mindfulness in Blue Jeans\, a 20+ year practitioner of mindfulness and insight meditation. \nAfter actively denying his own trauma for eight years\, Ron’s life finally fell apart in a crippling heap of anxiety\, depression\, panic disorder\, and agoraphobia in early 1998. While on short-term disability and unable to even leave his house\, he was introduced to anapanasati (mindfulness of breathing) and vipassana (mindfulness-based insight meditation)\, which formed the basis of a profound recovery built on daily practice on and off the cushion. \nWith backgrounds in social psychology\, information technology\, and yoga\, Ron emphasizes a grounded and methodical results-based approach toward discovering inner freedom. \n“Mindfulness in Blue Jeans … because enlightenment doesn’t care if you’re wearing yoga pants.”

SUMMARY:Pitfall! (Mindfulness and Insight Meditation Traps)
DESCRIPTION:Like any path worth walking\, our spiritual journeys are fraught with traps. New practitioners often encounter confusion from common paradoxes\, and experienced meditators discover new (and increasingly sneaky!) tarpits as practice deepens. In this session\, we’ll examine a few of these fun little hurdles and how to skillfully navigate them. As usual\, we’ll open with discussion on the topic\, sit for about 30 minutes\, and then have a Q+A period. \n**LOCATION**This event will take place in the Charles River Room at the Watertown Center for Healing Arts. Once you come in that entrance\, just go up the stairs and we’re in the large room next to the small kitchen area. \nFeel free to bring your own cushion; there will also be various blankets\, bolsters\, and chairs available. \nI’m looking forward to sitting with you all once again!

SUMMARY:Shattering Attachment
DESCRIPTION:A prominent mindfulness teacher once wrote that if he had to distill the Buddha’s entire teaching down to one sentence\, it would be “attach to nothing as me or mine.” Years ago\, a shift in perspective about attachment altered my focus and dramatically increased my progress with this critical element of practice. In this session\, I’ll share the insight that led to that shift and guide a seated meditation based upon it. \nWe’ll be meeting at the Lucia Mastrangelo Meeting Room on the second floor of the Watertown library at 2:15. Feel free to bring cushions\, pillows\, etc. for our sitting\, and there are chairs available if that’s preferred. \nThe format will be similar to our previous meetups: some quick intros\, a brief talk called “Shattering Attachment\,” a 30ish-minute sitting\, and time for Q+A and general discussion. \nLooking forward to another great event!

SUMMARY:Revealing Inner Peace
DESCRIPTION:Register here: Revealing Inner Peace\n  \nAre you your own drill sergeant in an army of one? Do you feel endless pressure to be “good enough?” Are you ready to start letting that go? \n  \nWe often gravitate toward self-loathing rather than self-compassion. For example: \n\nDo you berate yourself for relatively minor things\, or long ago events?\nDo you feel like you treat yourself worse than you treat everyone else?\n Does your mind feel more like a war zone than a safe haven?\nAre you motivated more by fear than love?\nHas anyone (including you!) suggested easing up on yourself?\nDo you feel the need for constant inner vigilance or control?\n\n  \nYou’re not alone. More importantly\, you’re not permanently stuck with this. \n  \nSave your spot for this workshop to learn: \n\nThe sources of your negative self-thinking\nThe dysfunctional “logic” those thoughts follow\nWhere to break the vicious cycle that gets created\nHow to use one simple mindfulness practice to reveal your inner peace\n\n  \nThe insights shared and practiced in this session come from years of painstaking work. You don’t have to re-invent the wheel to discover the structure of this thought pattern … or how to make it implode. \nEarly-bird discounted tickets are available at Revealing Inner Peace\, and your peace awaits within. (Really. It’s there\, and probably closer than you think.) Namaste! \n  \n  \nWhat people say about our sessions: \nHis voice invites immediate connection and his use of anecdotes & metaphors makes absorption of his teachings enjoyable. Really looking forward to more talks! — Elisa\, Wareham\, MA \nI feel like I just had a weight lifted from my chest and I can feel the space that was just created inside of me. — Ashley\, Denver\, CO \nWow\, that was fantastic. Thank you Ron for an amazing experience. — Erin\, Los Angeles\, CA \nYou made this practice very approachable\, thank you. — Melissa\, Hanover\, MA \nInsightful practice. I appreciate Ron’s approach to sharing his wisdom with us. Great blend of story\, technique and sitting. — Walt\, Ashland\, MA \nThat was profound. A life changer. — Imelda\, Austin\, TX \nA welcomed prod to shift perspective. Thank you! — Susan\, Ashburnham\, MA \nI love the pace and tone and clear guidance. — Parminder\, London\, United Kingdom \nTo say that this experience has been insightful\, and it has\, would be the highest compliment I could give. — Seeker\, Cedar City\, UT \n  \n  \nPresented by Ron Levine from Mindfulness in Blue Jeans\, a 20+ year practitioner of mindfulness and insight meditation. \n  \n“Mindfulness in Blue Jeans … because enlightenment doesn’t care if you’re wearing yoga pants.”

SUMMARY:The Simple Trick to Reaching Acceptance: Condensed Workshop
DESCRIPTION:We hear a lot about “acceptance” and “letting things go.” We hear a lot less about HOW to actually do it effectively\, and our efforts often leave us feeling like we’re banging our heads against a wall. Instead of freeing us\, trying to let go ironically becomes yet another thing we have to carry. \nIn this workshop\, we’ll cover all the critical aspects of discovering acceptance\, including: \n* The crucial starting point (which is usually missed)* Recognizing what acceptance really is* What blocks us from acceptance* The “Shatterpoint” technique to remove that block* Why acceptance is actually much easier than we think \nEarly-bird tickets (available thru 6/20) are $15 and Meetup member receive 25% off; register here and use the code “MEETUP”: \nhttps://reachingacceptance.eventbrite.com \n(After 6/20\, tickets are $22; the 25% off code will still be valid.) \nWhat others have said about this session: \nThank you for a WONDERFUL WONDERFUL\, WONDERFUL meditation! Your insight into resistance and your advice into relating to it is profound. Thank you so much!Janet\, CA\, USA \nLearned so much with this meditation. I have a completely different perspective on what I thought I was accepting. With peace and gratitude Ron for sharing your experience and wisdom. Namaste! 🌼🙏Julie\, MA\, USA \nYes! Thank you. 🙏🏼 This insightful approach is exactly what I was missing. Grateful. 💝Bon Marie\, CA\, USA
